Winter Field Day 2026 was the weekend of January 24th and 25th, and held at Camp Reinberg in Palatine, IL.
According to the Winter Field Day Association, Winter Field Day, “…aims to help participants improve their preparedness for disasters and enhance their operational abilities in adverse conditions” and ” to encourage a diverse range of activities, including the use of non-commercial power sources, the deployment of multiple antennas, establishing satellite contacts, and more.”
CFMC members and guests certainly checked the “…adverse conditions…” box. Temperatures never reached above single digits, and snow was flyin’.
The event ran from 10:00 AM Saturday till 3:59 PM Sunday and was a great way to learn about portable ops, portable antennas and casual contesting.
We occupied a cabin round the clock from Friday afternoon till Noon Sunday.
CFMC came in FIRST in Illinois for the number of contacts made during Winter Field Day. We only operated SSB.
